Preserve Texas Born Music

18th Annual Texas Western Swing Showcase
01/15/2014

Music of Texas Western Swing will once again fill the Bell County Expo Assembly Room on Saturday, March 1, 2014, for the 18th Annual Texas Western Swing Showcase in Belton. Doors open at 11:00 am. The music starts at noon with an all-star show of Western Swing giants that include Randy Elmore, Bobby Flores, Jimmy Burson, Ricky Turpin, Wes Westmoreland, and the Austin Lake Travis Fiddlers and continues until 5:00 pm. The dance featuring the great sounds of Bobby Flores and the Yellow Rose Band will be from 8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. Deadline to reserve dance tables of eight is February 25th. You can reserve these tables by calling 254-939-8390. All other tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Texas Western Swing Heritage Association of Bell County, a non-profit organization composed of local and area volunteers with Nan Ray as event’s chairperson, sponsors the event. “The purpose of the event is to promote the official music of the state of Texas, Western Swing, and to assemble extremely talented musicians on our stage. There will be Grammy Award winners, Hall of Fame musicians, World Champion fiddlers, and recording artists performing,” said Nan Ray. As Texas Monthly magazine reported about the event - “Springtime Saturday night in the 30’s and 40’s in Small Town Texas meant a big dance. Entire communities would ride their horses or drive their trucks to the local dance hall, fill the dance floor, then shuffle and waltz the working part of the week away.” The music was Western Swing and that kept the dance floor full each weekend. It will be full again on March 1st at the Bell County Expo Center. Make your reservations early if you want a table by the dance floor. It is a chance to enjoy a Saturday of Western Swing music like your grandparents looked forward to each Saturday night. You won’t want to miss it!

Admission to the afternoon entertainment, noon to 5:00 pm, is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for students. Tickets for the dance from 8:00 pm to midnight are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for students. Tables of eight may be reserved for the dance.
